Study Questions:
When we study familiar stories that we have heard since childhood, we have to recognize that we are still studying the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit has much to teach us if we dig a little deeper into the story. So remember your creator while you are young, before the evil days come, and the years approach when you will say, "They no longer give me pleasure" [Kohelet/Ecclesiastes 12:1]
As we worship God today, we are preparing for what comes out of our life later. It is like spiritual investing. You can't get anything our of your bank account that you have not put into it. In what ways do the people we spend time with and other outside circumstances affect what comes in to our lives? "Do not store up for yourselves wealth here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and burglars break in and steal. Instead, store up for yourselves wealth in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and burglars do not break in or steal. For where your wealth is, there your heart will be also. [Mattityahu/Matthew 6:19-21] How do you want your life to end up? Prayer:
What came out of the ark? Compare this to what was put into the ark.
Nothing came out of ark that was not put into it to begin with.
What are the things you want coming out of your life?
And it is perfectly evident what the old nature does. It expresses itself in sexual immorality, impurity and indecency; involvement with the occult and with drugs; in feuding, fighting, becoming jealous and getting angry; in selfish ambition, factionalism, intrigue and envy; in drunkenness, orgies and things like these. I warn you now as I have warned you before: those who do such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God! But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, self control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things. [Galatians 5:19-23]
The things that come out of our life do as as the Holy Spirit takes the good works that we put into our life and develops them into fruits of the Spirit.
How blessed are those who reject the advice of the wicked, don't stand on the way of sinners or sit where scoffers sit! Their delight is in Adonai's Torah; on his Torah they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams - they bear their fruit in season, their leaves never wither, everything they do succeeds. Not so the wicked, who are like chaff driven by the wind. For this reason the wicked won't stand up to the judgment, nor will sinners at the gathering of the righteous. For Adonai watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked is doomed. [Tehellim/Psalm 1]
How does what we do now, affect our life in the Kingdom?
There will be a day when God will bring all things to judgement. In our culture we are taught to be focused on "now", not so much the future. However we are taught in Scripture that the end is more important than the beginning.
The end of something is better than its beginning, so the patient are better than the proud. [Kohelet/Ecclesiastes 7:8]
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had passed away, and the sea was no longer there. Also I saw the holy city, New Yerushalayim, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne say, "See! God's Sh'khinah is with mankind, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and he himself, God-with-them, will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will no longer be any death; and there will no longer be any mourning, crying or pain; because the old order has passed away." Then the One sitting on the throne said, "Look! I am making everything new!" Also he said, "Write, 'These words are true and trustworthy!' " And he said to me, "It is done! I am the 'A' and the 'Z,' the Beginning and the End. To anyone who is thirsty I myself will give water free of charge from the Fountain of Life. He who wins the victory will receive these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son. But as for the cowardly, the untrustworthy, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those involved with the occult and with drugs, idol-worshippers, and all liars — their destiny is the lake burning with fire and sulfur, the second death." [Revelation 21:1-8]
