Summary of Noach:
We start this parasha with God commissioning Noach(Noah) to build an ark to escape a coming flood which will destroy every living thing on the face of the earth. After the flood, Noach and the animals, along with his family came off the ark and given the mandate to be fruitful and multiply on the earth. God places a rainbow in the sky as a sign of His covenant never to destroy the earth with a flood again. The first act of Noach recorded after the flood is making a vineyard, leading to his drunkenness and exposure to his son Ham. Following this is a geneology of Noach in chapter 10. Chapter 11 records the story of the construction of a tower, known as the Tower of Bavel/Babel, which means confusion. Here the people are separated by languages to keep them from gaining too much power. The parshah ends with a geneology of Shem.
