Acts 7:9-16
This time, it is Pharaoh who has a series of dreams and all his magicians and wise men could not interpret them. The cupbearer remembered Yosef who was then summoned to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams. Giving credit to God, he proceeds to tell Pharaoh that God is telling him that there will be seven years of plenty, followed by seven years of famine. Yosef tells Pharaoh that during the years of plenty grain needs to be stored up for the years of famine. Pharaoh agrees and makes Yosef in charge of the operation. Thus, Yosef becomes governor of all Egypt, second to only Pharaoh himself. Yosef is given Osnat, an Egyptian, as a wife and through her is born M’nasheh and Efrayim. The seven years of abundance ended leaving a famine throughout the land. All nations came to Egypt for food, which included Yosef’s family. All Yosef’s brothers came to get food except for Binyamin. He recognized them, but they did not recognize him. He questions them to find out where their heart was. He tells them to go home and bring back Binyamin. They leave and find that they had grain and all their money, which made them afraid. They return with Binyamin, but with great turmoil to Ya’akov, who was close to death. They meet again with Yosef who honors them at his table, gives them grain along with their money in their sacks, but sets them up by putting his goblet in Binyamin’s pack. They are overtaken by Yosef’s men and brought back humbled. He tells them that the one with the goblet will stay as his slave, but the other can return home.
