Despite the name of the parashah being “Sarah’s life”, the first event of the parashah is her death. Avraham, then engages in a negotiation for a field and a cave with which to bury Sarah. He purchases the field and buries Sarah. After this, Avraham commissions his head servant, Eleazar, to go to the land of his kinsmen to find a wife for Yitz’chak. The servant prays to God for success and after arriving at a well in the land of Nachor, Avraham’s brother, finds Rivkeh. She is the daughter of Rivkeh and fits the signs needed to indicate she is the one for Yitz’chak. He goes to her family, explains his reason for being there, and is able to leave the next day to bring Rivkeh to Yitz’chak. When they arrive, the two are introduced and the marriage is consummated in the tent of Sarah. The parashah ends with the death of Avraham, as well as some genealogical information for Yishma’el.
